Snapshot: Winter cracked...

Snow melts into the earth and a gentle breeze
Loosens the damp gum wrappers, the stale leaves
Left over from autumn, and the dead brown grass.
The sky shakes itself out. And the invisible birds
Winter put away somewhere return, the air relaxes,
People start to circulate again in twos and threes...

After a winter so long some may have doubted it would ever end, winter in Quebec gave up. Not that it did so without a struggle, though. As this snapshot post shows, there was snow well into the sunshine season.

These are such awesome pictures. I can't believe this was just a month or two ago!

Pretty amazing that now we are laying in the sun on our porch, and not so long ago, we were shoveling mountains of snow!

It's actually a nuthatch, just moving so fast I couldn't catch the wings. :) The hand belongs to a friend of ours here. We all went out on a snowy walk in a park where it turns out a lot of people feed the birds. So, the birds are pretty fearless, and will land right on your hand to take bird seed from it.

Probably some legitimate concerns about disease transmission, not feeding natural foods, and overly bold wildlife. On the other hand, it makes for AWESOME photos.

That was indeed a terrible winter... I wonder if we went to the beach once in May!

Such great memories from Québec. Thanks for the pics!
